Thanksgiving 2011
Kathryn Cross, Gold Star Mother and Eddie Allen, Veteran, reunited at Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital
BEDFORD, MA - Gold Star Mom brings cheer by way of uniquely illustrated greeting cards for hospitalized inpatients at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital.
Over the past year, Kathryn Cross has been reaching out across the country to express her appreciation to Veterans and Military Service Members. Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital was fortunate to be on Ms. Cross’ list of places to go. Every Veteran she came across was greeted by warm hello, embrace and a specially designed and Illustrated Thanksgiving card.
This wasn’t Ms. Cross’ first fist to the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, in 2009; Ms. Cross attended a Wreaths Across America event with the other Gold Star moms. During that visit she met with many Veterans, again, appreciating their contribution and that of their family. Listening intently to their concerns and the well wishes Veterans had to offer her in return. It seems fitting that the illustrator, Gold Star mom, befriended Mr. Allen, an inpatient Veteran/poet on the first visit in 2009 and again by chance during this most recent visit. Sharing the memory of their first meeting and the significance of her gift would reaffirm to Ms. Cross the reason for these visits and the benefit reaped by all.
