The Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital Annual Golf Tournament has grown over the years.  A full field of 68 golfers participated this year in the 14th annual golfing event under sunny skies at Patriot Golf Course located at the hospital.

Acting Hospital Director Christine Croteau presented the Edith Nourse Rogers Trophy to staff at Enfield Enterprises, the winning team. The winning team sponsored by Enfield Enterprises shot a best ball score of 7 under par 28 at the par 35 Patriot Golf Course.

This year, donations from the Veterans Benefit Golf Tournament will be utilized to send a team of Veterans from Bedford to the VA National Golden Age Games in St. Louis and to support the VA Voluntary Service Patient Projects Fundraising Committee.  Over the years proceeds from the event have been utilized to purchase a wheelchair bus, companion radio system, whisperglide adapted swing, wheelchair van and Patient health education kiosk for the general welfare and benefit of Veterans cared for at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Mass.

“This year’s event raised over $10,000 for deposit into the Patients General Post Fund” said, Joseph Dooley, chief of Voluntary Service.  Acting Hospital Director Christine Croteau joined Mr. Dooley in offering their appreciation for the support of all the sponsors of the golf tournament, and, especially, the players who participated.

Women’s Closest to the Pin prizes were presented to Maureen O’Keefe and Carolyn Bumbaca.  The Women’s Long Drive prize was won by Ethel Waite.

Mr. Dooley said, “Special thanks must be made to the Veterans Benefit Golf Tournament volunteer committee featuring Mr. Fred Gordon, VFW Rep, Mr. Frank Harmon, AL Rep, Mr. Bob Tracey, Elks Rep and Mr. Bob Sullivan, DAV Rep for an exceptional outcome this year.”

If you are interested in supporting Veterans at next year’s tournament or volunteering at the hospital contact the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital Voluntary Service office at 781-687-2352.
