Sharing a Passion for Corvettes as a Way of Giving Back to Veterans
This year's Veterans' Choice Winner was Mr. Scott Toothaker and his 1961 red roadster.
For several years the Bedford VA Medical Center Voluntary Services has hosted the Vettes to Vets program orchestrated by Ron Morneau of the Corvette Community of the Northeast. This program is held every year on Gold Star Mothers' Day.
Greeted by Veterans, many spectators, and the Massachusetts Honor Guard were 327 Corvettes driven by flag-waving drivers who were escorted by the Middlesex Sheriff's motorcycle detachment. The parade led to our facility Oval where Vettes were on display for Veterans, staff and our guests.
A tsunami of support from volunteers, nursing and other staff, family and friends brought joy and the ability to participate to Veteran patients at the Medical Center. The Air Force Association's Paul Revere Chapter sponsored and manned a barbeque that was enjoyed by all.
Every year there is grand prize winner selected by Veterans. This year's Veterans' Choice Winner was Mr. Scott Toothaker and his 1961 red roadster. This year the Vettes to Vet program raised $12,000 in cash and $25,000 in personal care items to support the needs of patients at the Bedford VA Medical Center. The most precious gift received by the patients was the celebration of appreciation, honor and respect to Veterans shown by all who attended.
