Lynn CBOC Expansion
Michael Mayo-Smith, MD, MPH, Network Director for the VA facilities in New England attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
On January 18, Bedford VA celebrated the expansion of its Lynn CBOC. Michael Mayo-Smith, MD, MPH, Network Director for the VA facilities in New England attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. "It is a special pleasure for me to be here," said Dr. Mayo-Smith. "Of all the duties that I perform as a Network Director, this is one I enjoy very much, because the expansion of a clinic such as this means improved access to health care services closer to Veterans who need them.”
The Lynn clinic was first opened in April 1998 at the current site. The number of primary care patients seen has grown to over 2200. The key issues driving the expansion were space, room size, layout, acoustics and the addition of other clinical services in the future.
"Today’s ribbon cutting is the culmination of much hard work and is a real victory for Lynn area veterans. I’ve been happy to join with Veterans Agent Mike Sweeney, VISN 1 Network Director Dr. Michael Mayo-Smith, Bedford VA Hospital Director Tammy Follensbee and the staff at the Bedford VA, the Lynn Veterans Council, and Lynn area veterans to help secure this much needed expansion." said Congressman John Tierney. "The new space will include an important new facility specifically designed to address the mental health needs of young veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and I am pleased that it will enable the great staff at the Lynn Clinic, one of the first Community Based Outpatient Clinics to be opened by the VA, to provide their tremendous services, to even more veterans in our area."
Tammy A. Follensbee, Director of Bedford VA, said, "We’re fortunate to have places like this Community Based Outpatient Clinic that provide world-class care for the men and women who have served our country. But we also know that often, in order to heal, Veterans need more than the best medical treatment. They also need the people who coordinate, design and build the facilities where Veterans are cared for and I thank all of you who contributed to support this expansion."
