Requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides that any person has a right of access to Federal agency records, except to the extent that such records are protected from release by a FOIA exemption or a special law enforcement record exclusion. It is VA's policy to release information to the fullest extent under the law.

To submit a FOIA request for information specific to only VA Bedford Healthcare System, you have the choice of submitting your request by mail, fax, or email. There are no special forms required to submit a request. 

The request must:
     - Be in writing
     - Reasonably describe the records sought
     - Contain the requestor's name and contact information
     - Contain any form of the requestor's signature if the documetns being requested involve a personal privacy interest or are protected by another confidentiality statue
     - State the requestor's willingness to pay applicable fees if necessary
